Marketing and Advert concept created and designed by SDX Media with HMG Paints for the British Coating Federation.
At the beginning of 2010 the British Coatings Federation were redesigning their branding and identity and trying to give themselves a refresh and become much more prominent within their own industry and in the wider media.
With HMG Paints being a member of the BCF I was asked to develop and create a concept that would help the BCF with their new approach. The concept we developed was for "A Life Without Coatings" which would feature a series of adverts that showed to the unassuming public and media how important coatings and inks are.
To project the image I created a series of design concepts, which were to be targeted at industry magazines alongside some mainstream media, that showed world famous landmarks and common objects and how they would be affected without coatings applied to them. For this I used Jodrell Bank Telescope, The Eiffel Tower, The Angel of the North and a decayed ship.
The campaign was to ask people to think about A Life Without Coatings:
"From a modest industry of a few hundred highly innovative companiesflow the materials that protect and create much of our environment and are the means of delivery of most of our information and education. Can you imagine a life without coatings? Visit coatings.org.uk to find out"

A Promotional print and digital flyer designed for HMG Paints a highly successful wet paint manufacturer however many people are unaware that they also have a wide range of powder coatings. In order to promote this fact I was tasked with creating a promotional flyer that would be print based to be sent out with Powder Coatings orders, to be delivered by HMG's team of sales representatives and to be sent out with HMG's Monthly Statements. A digital version of the flyer was also created that allowed the HMG Paints Powder Coatings team to email the flyer out.
The aim of the flyer was to highlight a limited time offer that HMG were doing on their range of Black and White Powders, the current UK Powder Coatings market is currently undergoing massive price increases of upto 15%, however HMG as always are putting their customers first and implementing a much smaller increase. Even from the 1st August when prices per Kilo of black and white powder coatings rise from £2.20 to £2.40 the pricing will still be below market standard prices, meaning once again HMG Paints customers are receiving excellent value for money.
The flyer was created entirely in house using mainly Adobe Photoshop for image editing and final layout, logos were created within Adobe Illustrator and the imagery was taken with a Nikon D40 on location at a very happy HMG Customer.

For this one I had to create a map and reverse of a ticket for a dinner who's attendees included major names in the World and European Coatings industry.
The Kaliedoscope 2010 Industry Dinner is one of the biggest events in the UK paint and coatings industry and coincides with the Surfex exhibition. Surfex 2010 was held at the Harrogate International Conference Centre with the Kaleidoscpoe Industry Dinner being held at The Cairn Hotel close by on the evening of the event. In my role at HMG Paints we had already agreed to print the tickets for the event, however unfortunately after a fire at the original venue the ticket needed modifying to show the new venue of the Cairn Hotel. For this I was tasked with creating a map that would clearly show attendees where the new venue was.
The Map needed to be clear and concise which was a challenge as the venue was in a cluttered area of Harrogate, thankfully I managed to achieve this making a clear and concise map whilst managing to keep the ticket inline with the events branding.
To create the I used Adobe Illustrator for creating the lines, Adobe Photoshop for the HMG Paints sponsor areas and Adobe InDesign for the final composition.

HMG Paints Ltd are planning a summer push to promote their on site Trade Counter. The Trade Counter has been mismanaged for years and has never done any real advertising or promotion. With a change of staff within HMG Paints has come a new emphasis on promoting the HMG Paints Trade Counter and their range of sundries, including decorating equipment, spray equipment, tapes, clothes & more along along with the household brands including 3M, Stanley, Stickit, Dupont.
The current featured presentation is on DeKups by Devilbiss, the next generation in disposable paint cup systems. The HMG Paints Trade Counter is offering a fantastic promotion on the new system and its related sundries, in total customers of HMG Paints can save up to £20 on the whole kit. The promotion was 3 fold, with a print campaign that was sent out to over 600 HMG Paints customers, along with an email campaign that was sent out to selected customers. Also a poster campaign within the HMG Trade Counter to let the walk in customers know about the campaign. The campaign will be first of many to promote the HMG Trade Counter.

HMG Paints Ltd, The UK's leading independent paint manufacturer, are this year returning to print advertising in various paint and coatings related publications, unfortunately HMG's image range is very poor so the logo idea was used as an alternative to using low resolution product pictures like in the past . The 3D version of the 80th Anniversary logo will be forming the basis of many of these adverts. The 3D logo was created in Adobe Illustrator and will then be used in a wide range of HMG Paints media throughout 2010. Plans for the logo at the moment include, videos, presentations, merchandise and stationary.
The HMG Paints 3D poster was selected for Abduzeedo.com Daily Inspiration 447 You can see the page via the following link http://abduzeedo.com/daily-inspiration-447

HMG Paints Ltd are leaders in the Commercial Vehicle sector in the paint industry and as such have a wide varierty of coatings, the Commercial Transport Systems Chart was created to bring all these systems into one place.
The wall chart contains all of HMG Paints' relevant products to the Commercial Transport sector and provides all the latest information inclunding VOC's, mixing ratios, viscosity and other relevant information that users will need for the paint along with Hardener and Thinner information. The wall chart also features the HMG Paints logo watermarked in the background, the idea of this is that when viewing the chart from far away the logo is the most visible part of the poster, however when close up the logo does not make the text unreadable.  The chart was printed on A1 170gm Silk paper and has been distributed to a wide variety of HMG customers and HMG's network of distributors.
If you would like a Commercial Transport System Chart then please use the contact details on the top menu or contact HMG Paints Ltd, via tel: 0161 205 7631 or via email on

In November 2009 HMG Paints Ltd, the UK's biggest independent paint manufacturer brokes its all time record litreage with a whopping 416,320 litres of paint produced.
To celebrate the fact HMG Paints management treated the staff to a free bottle to help celebrate in style, for the occassion I created a special label to mark the landmark occassion.
Quite a way to head into HMG Paints' 80th year, a big well done to all the production staff who made it possible.
